By 1880 the railroad employed 42 men in and around Henderson. The train bridge across the Ohio River was started in 1881. After completion of the bridge in 1885, travels from St. Louis, Missouri to Nashville, Tennessee took only 12 hours. Travel from Chicago, Illinois to Nashville could be completed in 16 hours. Both of these routes had to go through Henderson. The Henderson Division of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad system became one of the most profitable in the L&N system.
